400ex head pipes are cherry red please help
someone please help i have a 2002 400ex all stock i just took my bike out of the bike shed and started it for the hell of it and let it idle for about 10 minutes it was idling kind of rough then i looked down and saw the head pipe was bright red i did take it out last week on a local frozen lake with lots of snow out there and didn't notice any thing any answers will really help me and yes i check the oil it was clean and full

it could be running lean or rich due to moisture or condensation in the carb or even dirt in the carb can lean out a engine,when an engine gets too much fuel as in not enough it can make headers glow.COld weathr an snow put more demands on a engine more load an if bike isnt jetted right for it engine wont recieve enough of fuel for its load..If it was night it could be normal ya cant see em glow duing the day.Running rough an hot I wouldnt run it like that too long if It dont clean up youll seize motor or heat will make rings lose set then it will smoke.

thanks for the info as far as running rough once i got it started again i held the rpms up a bit and after a bit it seemed to clear up went fro a test ride and ran normal do you think that it could have had condensation from the cold weather or something but burnt it off after the high rpms
