Is the 250ex really that bad?

pimp 250r your retarded
the 250 ex and 250x are 2 totally different machines. the 250ex motor orginates from the honda recon. it has a longitudeily mounted shaft drive and auto clucth and is the best of performers. on the other hand the 250x is an earlier version of 300ex.as u should no it has lot more power manual clutch chain drive, and for its time was a high performance quad. not a wife bike like the 250ex

i still have my 250ex and just recently got a 03 400ex. i still ride my little 250ex when im extremley bored but its a great quad for beginners but at an older age it will easaly bore you into wanteing a faster quad if u like to ripe threw the trails and stuff.

I'm actually looking at the new Raptor 350 and also the Honda 400 . . . I want more power/length/wheelbase than my 250 has and A LOT more suspension (aagh, my aching back/legs!). Have you ridden the 350? Like it? How about the 400 . . . I can get that one for $4,999 OTD. How is the Honda 400 as compared to the Suzuki Z400 as far as handling, etc?

i have a 250 ex and with the money i put into it i could have bought a 400 ex or better yet a 450r but i really like my bike even stock it was fun i had no problems with the suspension at first but after extensive riding the shocks got a little loose because they are oil based shocks so i through some works gas shocks on them and its been hot for a suspension ever since. as far as the engine goes it did like 60 maybe out of the crate with the mods i put on it (over 1 grand just to the engine carbs and intake system) it clearly is one of the fastest 250's youll ever ride. i smoke z250's blasters warriors and i can keep up with raptors and ds650's for quite a ways they have about 5mph top end on me but not for long because im droppin nos on my system but if your an old guy and you want a bike just to ride trails then yea i sugguest it and if you want to surprise the hell out of bigger bikes then throw the mods i have on it and pull up next to a z400 and dust his *** with a little 250 like i do.

I like the idea of shaft drive, reverse and low mantainance and $3000 new. When anybody mentions the 250ex, it always goes to, get a 300ex or better yet the 400ex, you will outgrow the 250 in a months time. It is a good quad for 14 yr. olds and wives.
I guess what I really want to know is, are there any of you 250ex riders out there who are perfectly satisfied with the little ex and don't plan on getting a larger quad in the future. I am not into racing, but do like scoot down the trail at a decent pace. Also, I have always had a clutch.
Any comments?

This kind of quote really ticks me off....."I am 14 and those things are slow"....come on junior...I don't call 50 MPH slow and I don't think you know what you are talking about. And they are for 9 and 10 year olds, thats just plain wrong. Did you read the guys question? He was not asking about top speed.
I am 30 years old, 5 foot 9 and 190 lbs. I have a 2003 250ex and I love this thing. I always have to shake my head when I hear the old "you will outgrow it". I am not growing any more except in the waistline maybe and I fit this bike like a glove. It is the perfect size and weight for me. I used to own a Warrior and while I liked it, I got tired after an hour or two of trying to ride that beast. I have never gotten tired after one hour or even two on my 250ex.
It handles better than a bigger bike on the trails and it has plenty of power for the dunes. You are not going to win many races with a Raptor or 450r, but if you buy a 250ex, thats not what you are looking for. If you want an all around good bike with about NO worries, than go with a 250ex. And for the price, nothing packs more bang for the buck, nothing.
I a not saying I will not want something bigger someday, I do want a utility quad, but I am very happy right now and I don't think I will ever sell my 250ex, it will stay in the family.
