The first four wheeler I ever rode was a 400ex. I loved it. It was quick, and responsive. But that was five years ago. Now, when I look at the suzuki, I see that Honda was hasty and should have put more into it. The first time I got on the suzuki, I knew it was going to be a fun ride. It handled like a dream. The clutch like you asked had already been broken in, and was smooth. Now, when I compare the two of them, I would pick the suzuki. Also, the suzuki is liquid cooled, very nice. I don't now about the frame though.

I think the frames only crack if your doing big jumps. The z400 has a little more power and has a newer liquid cooled engine compared to the 400ex which is air cooled.

I bet a search on the Z400 forums will give you results.

the z400 has a really easy pull clutch, its the easyiest ive ever felt. and same with the throttle. and i also beleive the z is DOHC and the ex is a SOHC.

I own a z400 and a 450r.the z400 is a great all around bike it has great low end , a good mid range and top end. it has a very plush ride and is a good jumper. the seat is very soft and the ergos. are great. I have a pro circuit full exhaust , pro flo kit k&n 170 main jet,no air box lid. the z runs pretty strong.
