Rancher AT Serviced today

cluby, my beef is simple. When somebody pays me to do a job for them I do it right. When I pay someone
to do a job for me I expect it to be done right. .001" is not much, but when it says the valves are to have .006"
clearance, and I take it to a "Professional",. it better have .006" clearance, not .007".
Don't think I will cut them an inch of slack? You are right, I won't. Like it or not, if you proclaim to the world
to be a professional and get paid for your work, it better be up to par.
You are saying we can all do things half-assed and it is fine and dandy. NO WAY! I am not even sure they adjusted
the vavles, because I know they never checked the wheel alignment. It was off by 1.6" from specs. And they adjusted
the clutch totally wrong. And I am supposed to let this sh*t slide? NO CHANCE!
And BTW I gave them 2 days to get it set up before I took delivery, no excuses.

Amen to that! WoodsRuner. If everyone gave 110%, we would all be very happy. My brake levers were not aligned right either, one lower than the other by quite abit. I guess they are glued and screwed on. Now what does it take to sit back and make sure they are semi lined up.
I hear what you are saying. If I did that shabby of a job, I would never have any business.

I am in business for myself also. I give my customers EXACTLY what they want, not 10% less than they wanted. In fact, whenever possible I give then 10% more than they asked for.
BTW, I was a motorcycle set-up "tech" in the 70's. They hired me right off the street, on the word of
a customer that I knew something about bikes. Not a bit of training, no certification, no nothing. Within 3 months they had me repairing bikes, and they led customers to believe I was a certified motorcycle mechanic.
I have seen this business from the inside. I can tell you every dirty little trick they pull, and every corner they
can and do cut. I am perfectly capable of doing all my own maintenance and repairs. But I always take the bike back for the first service so there is no questions asked when a warranty claim arises. I feel qualified to raise some h*ll if things aren't done right.
Yeah, I was in the bike business, and I didn't like it. So I left.

It sounds like you did get decent service, although the price would make me shake my head as I was leaving.. maybe I'm tight with money, or simply cheap. I am also a mechanic by trade, and a valve adjustment being out by 0.001" is nothing to complain about. 0.001" difference is simply one set of hands having a different "feel" than another set. If anything, I'd sooner see valves set too loose than too tight.

Glad you liked the work they done RancherAT400 - say is $370.00 for a 42 month warranty from the dealer a good deal? This is my first quad and all and I really like my rancher AT - don't want to have to foot the bill for something I don't have too if a warranty will cover it. Especially first year for this machine.
Thanks

First of all I would like to say thank you to Chilly
Second I never said that we do stuff halve assed. You said you waited 2 days before you got your quad so you the only person that bought one or is it that I go through 700 ATV's at my dealership so your not the only person in this world that bought one. We have 3 set up tech's at our place and we cann't keep up. You might want to go see a doc or the place that you worked at must not have been that busy. Cause you cann't tell me that every single bike that you workes on never came back with some sorta problem.
Thirdly I was just saying that most of the time your valves won't need to be readjusted that once broke in probley won't change again. If you look in your owners manual it says that blots and such are to be checked ever so many mile or hours. Far as the price I have heard of ppl getting charged alot more for the first check. Our dealership give ppl that bought their quads there a good deal on there first check.
Forthly there isn't a clutch adjustment on a Honda 400 auto

Yeah, when I called him today - I mentioned that he quoted me a price around the 300 dollar range and I heard him start figuring and he started at 540.00 and I said "Geez" he said just a minute and then came up with the 370.00 - got to buy it by the 20th of this month - which I was going to any ways. Thanks RancherAT400 - so how does the quad run now after being serviced? Notice anything different?

It idles great, runs like a champ, no more backfiring. I am very happy with the brakes. The front end is finally straight. I really like the bike. It is a great companion and I think this thing is great.
I am impressed with the engine braking. I load this unit in the back of my truck without ever being on it. I just put it in gear and 4wd and stand beside it and watch it crawl up the ramps. I have a 95 Dodge Ram extended cab. When I unload it, I just do the reverse. Try that with a manual shift.
I think the unit has been very well engineered and it has a low enough gear in esp for me. I do not know how much lower you would want it. Someone awhile back said that the 1st gear was not that low. Hey, I am learning, and just letting you know what I find good about the machine. I guess each to his own, but I am so glad I bought the Rancher AT.
