Honda CR250 Engine into a 400EX??
#1
Has anybody stuck a new CR250 motorcross engine in a 400EX frame? I've seen new CR250 engines for about $1600. I know they kickstart backwards... is there any way around this? Do you really have to have a counterbalanced engine? Or can you buy new 250R quad engines? I feel the rest of the mods would be easy.
It baffles me why Honda stopped making the 250R.

u can put a cr250 engine into a 400ex frame. as u said it kicks backwords, u would not be able to have one piece plastic, u would have to take the bakc plastic off and then kick it (plastic takes about 5 seconds to remoce and replace). yes it would shake ur guts if u didn't have it counter balenced, just take it to a shop and they can counterbalence it for u

It'd be much easier to find a brand new CR250R engine than it would be to find a 250R engine that was in tip top condition =)

How can you say there is not a big difference between the two engines? Try about 10 more hp stock, 43 to be exact. Most built up 250r's donteven have that much power. Also powervalve = broader powerband with more top end too.
Quaddude5, I am VERY interested in a so called shop that can counterbalance this engine, if you are definitly sure it can be done give me the adress of this place.

I would have to agree with KillerBlaster. A motorcycle engine cr250 will always be faster than a regular 250r motor. I do believe that the 250r three wheeler had the cr250 engine in it. I have heard that the three wheeler 250r has always been faster than the 250r four-wheeler. About the conversion, my brother-in-law had a cr500 run on alcohol in an 84 250r frame. There was a lot of vibration. He actually bought it from a guy, that had it done already. The frame actually had cracked, and the guy had it chrome-moly, to make it stronger. He also filled the handlebars with silicone to dampen the vibration. About the cr motor kicking back, my brother-in-laws bick actually had two swivel bolts on the back part of the plastic, so the plastic rotated back, then clicked down, after it started. Other than that, the bike hauled. You could not bring the front end up, because there was so much power and the wheels would instantly break loose.

DUDE I WANTED TO PUT A CR500 IN MY 400EX, IT IS AN AWESOME FRAME DESIGN, BUT I WAS TALKED OUT OF IT BECAUSE THE MOTORS ARE NOT COUNTERBALANCE...SO I DONT KNOW...U MAY CONSIDER THE GAS GAS GNU 300 2-STROKE LIQUID COOLED MOTOR, IT IS BUILT FOR A QUAD, IM SURE IT IS A STRONG MOTOR..
