Default Saw My First 450R!!

I saw the 450R for the first time today. I called the local dealer and they said they just sold one but have one more that is still in the crate and they will call me when its built. So, I go there to check out the other quads they got there and the calls and she says "Are you in here right now?" lol, it was kinda funny. So anyway, she tells the guy to bring it into the garage where customers aren't allowed and she was nice and let me come back in there. The owner is a real d!ick and a half and doesn't let people sit on the quads, but this lady let me. Damn that thing is sweet! It is so sleek looking! I still have butterfiles in my stomach. That red plastic looks SWEET!!! Man-o-man, I can not wait to get that quad. The ergonomics on this quad seem incredible. I'm only 5'5" and it doesn't feel too big or small, but my 6 foot brother felt comfortable, too. I can not wait to have this quad in my garage in June!!

Default Saw My First 450R!!

I saw my first 450R last week. The owner even let me see how easy it was to start.....after about 5 kicks, I decided to turn on the key switch and it fired right up...duh! It sounded sweet and revved quick, I only wish I would have rode it, but it was on the trailer.

I still haven't seen one up close yet, but I just put my deposit down on one today! I'm so stoked!

Unfortunately, it probably won't be in until at least the end of March...The salesman said there are two on backorder ahead of me, and they've only been getting one in per month so far...

What does it kick like?

I have a YZ400F with a manual decompression lever. You have to kick it up to TDC, then pull the lever, kick just passed it, release the lever, then do a full kick. The TRX has an automatic decompression feature right? Do you still have to push it to TDC, then kick, or do you just kick it like a two stroke?

Speaking of, the guy I bought my bike from is kind of a smaller guy, and he accidentally hit the throttle as he was kicking it one time, and it launched him over the bars! LoL! Wish I could have been there! I guess since it has a TPS on the carb, the computer advanced the timing as he was kicking it, and it fired early...

It kicks over pretty easy, 3-5 kicks when it is cold and 1 kick with hot start when it is hot. It warms up within a minute and is good to go. The 400ex was a mother to start when it was cold.

Lightly depress kickstarter until resistance is felt, let kickstarter return to top of stroke and give it a kick. Use one motion, let kick lever up gently- if not it smacks your shin and hurts if you don't have boots on. It is a forward kick and this is my first kick starting machine, it is a piece of cake though.

The only problem that I've had was when I washed it. I turned off the gas and stood it up on the grab bar to wash underneath. I had to kick it about ten times to expel the fuel and then it started. It was already cold and must of had to much fuel in the carb. Even kicking it ten times wasn't that hard. After that, first time every time. Heck, when it is warm I can start it setting down if I can get my knee that high.

Cool! Thanks for the report!

So for washing it, you'd recommend shutting off the gas, then letting it run until it dies, to run the rest of the gas out of the carb?

I think it kicks about the same or a tad harder then a CR250 if that helps any. Just like a dirtbike, get the play out of the kicker and give it a good rip.

To use the hot-start do you have to have the clutch in, i think i remember the mechanic telling me that? I never had to use it yet.

Anyone take out the spark plug yet. Is it hard to get out, doesnt look very fun when i looked under there.

On my Yammi, the hot start lever is just a valve that opens on the carb that lets a little more air into the engine. In other words, all's it does is lean out the engine. I assume this works because hotter air is less dense, so the mixture is a little richer than normal, which makes the motor not want to start. All's I know is that it works. ...SO to answer your question, you SHOULDN'T have to have the clutch in to use it. They are totally unrelated.
