Default The wifes 440ex against a 450 r with hrc kit at the dunes today

Well the wife has been anxious to see how her 440 would do against the new 450r and she found out today at the dunes. She made three runs against the 450 in a 300 foot uphill sand drag race and the results were the same each time and she was dead even with him each time.We were both surprised to see just how close the race was because of all the hype about how the 450 with the hrc kit was so fast but at least today that was not the case.I am not knocking the 450r because it probably has the potential with more mods to do much better but from what i saw the hrc kit doesnt add the extra performance that the yfzs are getting with similar mods.I thought some of you with 440s and other built exs would like to hear a report on how they stack up to the new 450r and this is something that i witnessed so i know it to be true.

Did the guy on the 450 have stock gearing? What was the weight diff between your wife and the guy on the 450?

Thanks for the report. It's awesome that your wife's 440 kept up with the new Honda. But not really surprised. A 440ex should have similar power to the R. Based on dyno results around the web, the new R isn't a real high hp machine. Congrat's to your wife.

sand45-I dont know what gearing the guy was running but when the wife asked him about his mods he said he had the hrc kit so i know that for sure.I should aslo mention that our 440 is running a stock carb and stock valves and springs with no porting(yet) so it is not an extreme build so that is a big part of why i was so impressed. As far as the weight difference i dont know what the wife weighs because she wont tell me but she is 6 feet tall and thin so i would guess that the guy outweighed her by 25 or thirty pounds so that shouldnt have been a huge factor.I would press the wife a little harder about what she thought the weight difference was but i try to stay away from that subject if you know what i mean.

At least he ran the 450R. I saw more than enough out at Glamis this weekend, but did not see ONE race.. didnt help that the YFZ's are there to kick their ****.

Couple of questions, how do your other quads compare to the 440EX and what mods to they have?
What mods does your wife's 440ex have.

I dropped to a 13T on the front sprocket and now the 450R is friggin insane. I thought it was fast before, now it is unreal.

learning2fly-My wifes 440 can just slightly beat my 2003 baja wether we are on the flats or racing up a sand hill but my 686 raptor is just a quad length or two ahead of her 440 in a 300 foot sand drag.My baja has a big gun cdi and is re jetted for a k&n and my raptor has a 102mm 11:1 piston with a pipe and header and pro design air filter.I know that some of you may not want to hear that your 450r with the hrc kit is not as fast as a yfz with the same mods but from what i could see today its going to take a bit more of an investment to run with a modded yfz.SAND45-I agree that with the few mods that we have on our 440 that it shouldnt be that close but i only report what i experience and if it had totally smoked her i would have reported that.

All I can say to Raptor owners is " Line up against a 450R with the HRC kit and 13T sprocket and you will get your @ss handed to you." You would have to have a super modified raptor to stand a chance. Unless you can take a piped YFZ, you are not going to beat the 450R. If you can beat a piped YFZ, then my hat is off to you. Don't kid yourself, the 450R is going to be a bad mother, especially when a few more mods hit the market. I can't see an aftermarket pipe hurting the performance either.......

For all the raptor owners that have notoriously talked crap on the new Honda, enjoy the fancy tail light.... because that's what you'll be seeing if you can hang that close.

The YFZ and 450R are going to be in a dead heat performance wise.....

I'll totally agree with duneitilludie, from what I've seen the yzf's are faster than a 450r. I'm not saying that 450r's are slow, but a 440ex will keep up with them no problem.
