what about the 400ex????

You're right jonzo .. we got O/T there a bit eh?
I don't know why they would spend r & d dollars on improving the EX, though I'm sure that there is definitely a market for a newer and better one, even if they simply made the upgrade to liquid cooling and kept the 400 .. Really tho, the 450R is kind of the replacement in a way, though it is more race-bred out of the box than the EX ...
I guess your friend is either gonna have to mod up his EX or do something awful to your quad if he wants to keep up to ya!! LOL

The 400ex is a very capable quad. Try this on for size. Lets put a stock 400ex vs a stock Z in the Baja championship race. I have have no doubt the 400ex would beat the Z. Mind you they are stock there is alot more to go wrong on the Z like lets say the liquid cooling just in that I could think of numerous things to go wrong. Anyways Honda built the 400ex to be slammed into numerous situations and walk away from them not at the last of the packed the 400ex is a very plain jane quad that even my 10yr old son can ride it good. Less bells and Whistles less to go wrong. To top it off for under a grand you could have one bad machine that can be a compeitive racer.

Yeah the Warrior is old, and heavy, but it's got heaps of torque for a 350 air cooled, and other than a lack of power is one of the better hill climbers available due to it's "heavy" front end. And on top end it's not a hell of a lot slower than the EX which is lighter and much more powerful. It's not as quick by a long way, but still for all, it can get up there in speed for a dinosaur.

My ex is pretty built up but when it was stock i beat z400z and warriors all day long. Even though honda has the new 450r which i have! honda will not the THE EX GO!

Honda 400ex is not out dated by any means.
