1986 TRX 200...a good buy?
Got a friend that has a 1986 TRX 200 that has been siting a garage for 10 years un-ridden or started due to the owners age, hes in his 70s...
Its all orginal, accept the plastic on the right side which was replaced 12 years ago....
He said I could have it for $500....
I am going over there on sunday to take a look at it...he says all it needs is a new battery. I want to see if it starts and runs before purchasing, what should i do?
Drain the gas tank and wash out? Spray carb cleaner in the carb?
Is this a good quad?

if it doesnt start tell him youll give him 350, then take it home and put a lil diesel fuel in the piston just a lil bit so the piston walls get a lil lube on them, u might want to do that first before you try starting it. then drain the carb might need some carb cleaner and then get some new fuel lines.

ive got one that sat for 4 years... needed new plug.. air filter, carb to be taken appart and cleaned out , Tank drained and cleaned out, oil changed, brakes adjusted , and the timming to be reset and a new adjuster.. pretty much just basic maintanence.. ohh and it needed a battery for the electric start to work .. My boss who is the one who gave me this bike was like dont bother putting any money into it becuase im sure it wont last very long anyways.. but after sinking 200 bucks into it it runs like a top.. with pull starter it starts 2nd pull even when cold with choke off. He was quite amazed at what he had and didnt even realize.. the tires are even in great shape.. no dryrot or anything .

If its been sitting for 10 years this is what I would do. Drain the tank. Put in a little bit of fresh gas and slosh it around. Then empty it and fill it up. Do an oil change. Change the plug, air cleaner. when the plug is out put a little bit of starting fluid in the head. Put in the plug. Fire her up! If its been sitting for that long then its probably in very good condition. Considering the guys age, he probably never beat on it like kids do. Offer him $400 and see what he says. Those little hondas are tanks. They sure can take a beating. Enjoy
