Default Noise coming from under gas tank of 400 AT

Since iv'e bought my rancher AT I have noticed at about 9-11 mph in esp mode in 2nd gear that I hear a good rattle coming from under neath the gas tank. It might be the engine i'm not sure. It is a very loud rattle. You can even hear it in first gear when you start to get the speed up. I'm sure that you can hear it in all gears but that is when you can hear it the most. So I rode a friend of mines AT and it did the same thing. Can anyone tell me what that is that i'm hearing. I thought that it was my quad and then I rode his and it did the same thing. Thanks for anu info.

I have a Rancher AT and I have not noticed it, but maybe I am deaf. My hearing is not all that good. If you find out, let us all know.

I bought an AT 3 weeks ago,, my first atv. I heard the rattling also... I believe its the float for the gas gauge. You can hear it if you are sitting and you gently rock the mahine a little bit when its not running.

I was out on saturday and noticed a few things,, still bogging a little when starting out in 4x4 but getting much better. Can hear a very faint ticking from the engine? I can hear the auto shifting down from the gear selector on the handlebars when slowing down, normal? Engine breaking is incredible,, I was skidding on the ice if I let up on the gas too quickly! Brakes need adjustment fronts are very stiff, rear(handle) is very sloppy. idle seems low. It seemed that when it hit 100 km's the engine seemed to run much stronger,, dont know if it was just me or the ice, but all of a sudden it had some ba**$!

I can hear a rattle,, I believe its the float for the gas gauge. when parked and not running get on it and give it a rock side to side,, youll hear a rattle. If that is what your hearing its the gas gauge float.

If it i still within the first 20 hours on the clock. It could also be the valves needing adjustment. It seemed to start making a noise in my rancher at about 10 hours. I first thought it was the front diff but then i had the first service and it went away.

I just took my 400ex in to have the 20 hour sevice, adjust valves...When I went to load it into the truck at the shop there was a noise coming from under the tank. They called Honda and were told that there was a problem with the decompression and that I have to replace the cam...$400. It has only about 20 hours on it. How can this be? Do ya think it has anything to do with my name? Or is there a problem with Honda 400ex?
