Default Foot operated brake light

After being quoted a $150 price for a brake light kit from Honda, I decided to do it myself. I installed a brake light on my Foreman ES. It just operates from the foot brake, but that's the one I use the most anyway. If anyone is interested, I can give you the part numbers and a description of what I did. It looks good and works great. Total cost of $30-$35.

Default Foot operated brake light

I might be interested. It might be good to have a brake light.

I'm usually more concerned with if the person in front of me has a brake light. I've bumped my cousin a couple times during quick stops.

Default Foot operated brake light

Buzzman, if you want the hand levers to operate the brake light too, just order these switches from your local Honda dealer. (I know they fit the 1997 - 2002 models so they should fit yours, see my pics. to compare them)

These are Honda Part numbers -
The switch p/n is 35340-ML4-005.(needed 2 of them @ $11.17 each)
Also needed was...
1 stop switch collar p/n 35345-HF1-830 ($3.78)
1 screw-washer (4x20) p/n 93893-04020-07 ($.55)
1 screw-wasger (4x14) p/n 93893-04014-07 ($.50)

Just screw them on and wire them in! Here is a link to pictures of my switch install. (you will have to register, (free), to see the pictures) The switches are waterpoof and are the same ones you get with the Honda brake light kit!

Default Foot operated brake light

Thanks, gergb. I'll probably go ahead and do that.

Coyotechaser, I went to my local auto parts store and bought the light, 3 wire plug, grommet and bracket. I then ordered a universal brake light switch from Dennis Kirk. I made an L shaped bracked and put it on the upper rear bolt that holds the plastic cover on the right side of the engine. I put the brake light switch through this bracket, and hooked the spring (comes on the switch) under the foot brake lever. Then I did the wiring. I mounted the bracket for the light on the bottom bar of the rear rack. I mounted it on the top of the bottom bar to provide clearance for the tool box door to open. Here are the part numbers. (The light parts are all PM brand.)

Sealed stop, turn, & tail light. #V421R
3 wire plug #431-491
Bracket (Lost this number)
Grommet#421-18
Swith(Dennis Kirk) #21-0119
