Default carb help

I just bought a 2004 300ex and wanted to put a high comp. piston and cam in it and i know that if u put a larger carb in with know mods it can do more harm than good , but will i be able to run a bigger carb with just a cam and piston or do i have to port and polish it for it to work out?

You will be fine with your mods. Don't worry about the port and polish for now.

i would pick up a 400ex carb. i hear they are a nice upgrade at a fraction of the price of some other aftermarket carbs.

Get a pipe. A good pipe makes a world of difference. I put a White Bros E-series on my wifes bike and it totaly changed it. Then I ditched the air box lid and put in a K&N filter. The stock jet is 122. Now I run a 142. Talk about flow increase. It would probably run even better with a 400ex carb now. I would place a better exhaust at the top of the priority list.
