what do you all think of the hondas new automatic trans????

i have herd bad things about it from the atv show.
that it doesn't know what gear to be in some times.

i always said if honda came out with a non belted automatic that it would be the best. not so sure anymore.
and if went to hell what would the cost be to fix. not like replaceing a belt i am sure.

belts have been around for years on sleds and have been great.
i want your honest opinion.

On the Hondamatic used on the Rubicon, I haven't heard any complaints about not wanting to be in the right gear. I have heard this however from owners of the RancherAT and Rincon650. It's not really searching for a different gear. It's alot like driving the new F-150 trucks. They seem to shift better when you are hauling or pulling a load. Same with these Hondas. Honda knows that the majority of people who buy these uses them for work as much as play. Anything they equip with GPS should be a hint that they expect you carry things like camping gear, a deer maybe? This was Honda's response to customers who complained of the new Auto transmissions.....Not mine....LOL

I will say this. I haven't had anything happen on the AT or 650 yet, but the Rubicon trans must be replaced as an assembly and it will run you anywhere from $900 to $1400 for the part alone depending on the dealer. It is not servicable nor can it be repaired.

Since the Rubicon came out, we have replaed maybe a half dozen. Not bad, considering I sell a few belts a week for the Kawasaki models.

As for belt transmissions in general, Yamaha has the best one out there.

I have to dissagree with the best Belt-CVT. I would say Polaris has the best. They are the only one with a "lifetime *limited* warranty" on it and it's been around the longest.

But I think Hondas automatics are awesome. The Hondamatic is 95% efficiant and the Rincons transmission reminds me of my car. It's nice to have something other than a belt like everyone else.

By saying "Honda automatics", you are lumping together both the Rancher AT and Rubicon, with the Rincon (to many R's!). These are two very different systems!
