250R Lighting Problems, Please Read.
I am thinking about putting a set of Trail Tech Lights on my '86 250R. The previous owners decided to take off the entire lighting system. There is no key switch, no light switch, and they very poorly added a kill switch/tether lead. All of this looks pretty rough. The only thing I know works is the white hot-wire in the group of three wires coming from the shifter side of the engine. The owner before me said he attempted to hook up a set of halogen lights to this white wire and they blew when he revved it up (bad regulator). I called Trail Tech and they said to check the regulator, and that without the regulator operating properly, it could be putting out 45-50 volts instead of the 14.6 needed to run the lights! I pulled out the manual and have decided that I have NO regulator, switch, or anything else. So now my question is, What is this white wire (coming from the engine) supposed to be running? It has current running to it while the motor is running, so the stator is working. My question now is can I go from this white wire to a regulator, to a switch, and then to a set of headlights? I am going crazy tracing wires and am about to say to hell with it and just go without lights.
Any Ideas?

Yes, you have it. From the single wire coming out of the stator to a regulator, from the regulator to the switch, from the switch to the lights and finally from the lights to frame ground. Pretty easy.
Actually, you could hook a light to the wire from the stator and it will work when the motor is running (just dont reve the motor)
