Default which pipe???

im still tryin to get a pipe for my recon and ive narrowed it down to four. should i get a pro-circuit t4, a supertrapp ids2, an fmf powerline, or an fmf mega max. because my bike doesnt have a very high top end which will give it more bottom?

get the supertrapp IDS2, its adjustable for sound and powerband increase, plus its made of lightweight thick stainless steel.

I would say the Powerline just barely over the Supertrapp because the Powerline has no packing to replace later on down the road and is going to be fairly quiet because it's strictly a utility exhaust if I'm not mistaken.

Eric250ex, you are totally backwards on the disc advise. The more discs you have- the more free flowing the exhaust will be; therefor, you will have a louder quad and more top end power. The less discs; the power will increase on the bottom and it will be quieter.

All of these adjustments have there limits, you cannot use only one disc and expect the system to have mondo torque. You would just be restricting it.

If I had a recon, I would buy the cheapest system that would still be relatively quite. I think you can get a DG system with the discs, not sure though. If not, I think the super trap is pretty cheap. The point is, you probably will not get more than a 1.5 (if that) HP increase. So why spend big money on it? Actually, why even buy one at all? Just cut the stuffing out of your old one.

I know I gave props to the Powerline in my last post, but I just read an article on one of the magazine websites and they put a pipe/jet/filter combo on a Recon and chose the Supertrapp. They make it sound absolutely awesome, say it really perks the Recon up. By the way, they ran all discs possible in the pipe. I've heard one of these pipes myself with all discs (most performance AND most noise) and they are only a slight increase over stock as far as sound goes, hardly noticeable at idle, but you're made aware of it in the revs. As far as the discs go, it's simpler than anyone before me has claimed and this is TRULY how it goes. Check out the website if you don't believe me. More discs=max. performance and max. sound Less discs=less performance and less sound. The number of discs have nothing to do with shaping the powerband like boogerbub claimed. This pipe is made for a meatier low-end and mid-range hit and probably won't do as much to the top-end. That's just how it's designed. In a nutshell: the purpose of the discs is to create as much or as little sound as you want and the more noise you can stand, the more power you'll have.

Red Goblin, you are a numb nut. I used to see all of your posts and think man, that's a cool screen name; but now I will only think- "what a dink". If you think someone has said something wrong, show some tact. Respond buy saying something like, "Well, what I read on Supertrapp's web site was..." Get the point? I have no problem with being wrong, but the thing is- I'm not. It is EXACTLY how I stated earlier. Most people stick between 8 and 12 discs on these systems and when changing the number of discs, very little power difference can be felt- especially with a Recon. But with my 400ex, if I where racing tight MX I would be running my E-Series with 12 discs to get a good spread of power. But If I where running the baja or dunes, 18 discs would be my choice for full on un-restricted top end power. If I where in the woods, I would probably go with 8-10 discs to give me more torque and low end grunt. Sound is also affected by the amount of discs as you have stated.

About the Supertrapp webb site, I bet I could name about 15 people on this web site that know a lot more than Supertrapp could ever fathem and I am one of them and you are not.

The next time that you so uncourtiously accuse someone of being wrong, do it with tact and read up on that persons history first please.

Your 400EX would not run this particular Supertrapp pipe my friend. The pipe I'm referring to is strictly a utility pipe designed to deliver low end torque. That is a fact as well. I'm sorry if I offended you, but you will simply not receive top-end from THIS exact pipe, especially on a Recon as you mentioned. I'm not talking about a racing Supertrapp pipe because you're probably right on that one.
