#1
Has anyone experienced broken shift forks in the tranny of the 400EX??? Ive had mine for nearly two years without a problem but one of my friends bought one about three months ago and this weekend it started jumping between 2nd and 3rd gear. when he took it to the shop they told him that it was pretty much a common thing. Oh well thank god for warranty and i guess we'll ride this weekend hehe
P.S what do you think is the best steering damper and are they really worht the money
thanks in advance

Have not had any problem with shifting, but had a crankshaft bearing go out!Out of warranty, but honda paid for crank and bearing i paid for all labor and gaskets. Had a pep steeing stablizer and blew the top rod seal. Sent it back to pep and they sent new one, blew that one within two weeks. Sent back to moto-man for credit, don't want another one from pep. Thinking about denton.

Don't get the Denton. I got one on the suggestion of many here and although it does it's job, the geometry's flawed (I can elaborate if necessary).
Instead, check into a Scotts or a WER, they are more expensive, but are far superior.
If you don't want to lay down the cash for a Scotts or WER, try a Graydon, it has some adjustibility that the Denton lacks and should be able to correct the geometry problem. Unfortunately though, all the telescopic style dampers typically advertised in the magazines are inferior to the Scotts and WER designs.....

If you still have the bracketry for the pep damper just go to Autozone and buy a steering damper for a 70-73? voltswagon superbeetle, cut the end on the cylinder off and thread it 5/16 by 24 thread pitch and then just bolt it on. The reason your steering damper blew was not pep's fault the company that pep buys there dampers from have all the sudden started selling them junk dampers pull the sticker off of the damper and look at the part #'s if the damper was made from 8A6-4A9 first # is month second letter is week third # is year 8=august,A=1st week 6=1996 that is the dampers that are bad, but pep has started making there own dampers call pep and ask for Wayne tell him your situation and he will send you one of the dampers he built. I had the same thing happen to my damper, but I have not yet called him again to get my new damper. Hope this helps!!!!
