Default 450R Grab bar = POS

Hey guys, I just got a little throttle happy today while riding a wheelie, and tipped back onto my grab bar. After getting back on all fours, I noticed that I had taco'd it, and in the process, totally destroyed my nice LED brake light...which I'm sure is going to cost a pretty penny to replace. I am in the process of trying to glue all of the pieces together that I found, and hope it gets me by for a while. So my advice to you 450 riders, GET A STEEL GRAB BAR.

So my question is, where do I find one? Rocky Mountain doesn't seem to have anything stronger than the stocker. Their ad just says "lightweight aluminum...replaces your heavy stock grab bar" as if *that's* what I need! Weight isn't an issue, I want something STRONG!

Any help appreciated!

You could probaly make one if worse comes to worse and you cant find a good one. just use some round bar, like the stuff they use on american chopper all the time, i made one out of it works real good, spray paint it black or red and it would look ok too

definantly check out PRM. my brother has one on his 350X and its been indistructable. i'm talking about all out abuse. the only damage is some good gouges out of the back of it, no bending. and it looks good.

Thanks for the info.

Upon closer inspection, I found that it had cracked on the flat piece of aluminum that bolts to the subframe. The tube itself was fine. I think the problem wasn't the thickness of the aluminum at this point, but rather the height of the aluminum. For example, the flat piece of aluminum is about 3" long, 1/8" thick, and 3/4" tall. The bolts are about 1/4" maybe bigger, so this only left, at most, 1/4" of aluminum on either side of the bolt...which apparently isn't enough. Do the PRM bars have a taller mounting bracket?

I saw lots of parts, but didn't see any tail lights for my 450r...did you see any of those? Maybe I wasn't using the right search criteria...

I see what your saying by the aluminum being thin where it connects and i can see why it taco'd there. Thats the area thats gonna take on all the weight when you stand it up. Just by looking at the PRM standard grab bar it looks beefier in that area. Its less then 30$ and from what i hear PRM stands behind there products, if it happens again but with there grab bar im sure theyll refund you or get you a new one. Im just gonna go with the standard because the quad it already light, i dont need more leverage to lift it up and the standard bar has less area to snag on stuff in case i did go over on a wheelie.

hondaracer: Thanks for the link. I was looking in the wrong area.

roughrider: Are you just going by the pictures on the website? I think it's hard to tell.. Both the Desert and Baja mounting brackets look taller, but the standard looks about the same...

As far as PRM backing up their product and sending you a new one, thats great and all, but will they also buy me a new tail light and muffler? Oh yea, I mangled the cone on the back of my muffler too! Granted, it's only for looks anyway, but still, if the grab bar had held up, neither would have been damaged!

Anyone out there have one of these PRM grab bars on their 450r that could pipe up here?
