Default 450r jetting w/ slip on

I have a 450r with an E2 and 13 tooth counter shaft sprocket. Today I just picked up the HRC kit and I am just a little curious about the main jet. Going to the 185 seems like way to much from the 118 stock. Has anyone experimented with anything different?

By the way, I don't know why I am doing this, the quad rips already, so I really don't want to mess it up.

Thanks,
Ryan

Was wondering the same thing myself. Answering my own question, I think the jump in main jet size is due to matching the additional airflow in the airbox & exhaust mods, and, I assume the taper on the needle is different from the stock needle...

Like what he said, the mods, being jetted on the lean side from factory and the taper of the needle is why i think theres such a big jump.

Hey guys - been there done that.

185 is ok - i have the same setup E2 slip-on with no lid - currently waiting for my k&n Powerlid - to keep more dirt out - but it breathes just right !

i tried 180-175-and finally settled on 185 with changes to the needle - clip down one i think.

it rocks.

i raced a hrc 450r and a gyrt- whatever that Yamaha brand is -- pipe/cam on a Yama 450... - was pretty amazed - he cant run away.. on the long drag race - the yama does catch up and pass me at about 74mph...

but uphill on the dunes -- (and he had the 13T sprocket) - i still 'whip' him good - the Honda has tons of torque !! LOTS. But you can tell the Yamaha likes to rev up.

oh, BTW - the HRC equipped R - I blew it away --- go figure ??? Im glad I got the aftermarket pipe instead of that 'cheesy' 299 dollar kit - I dont think its worth the money if you ask me - besides - the pipe looks better than stock.. any pipe does ..

anyway , back to your original question - i played around with this setup - and found 180-185 to be just right - finally left the 185.

Thanks,
I'll try it with the HRC kit the way it says, and make adjustments from there.

ILPRED500 my buddy just installed a full spark's exhaust yesterday with the sparks filter and no lid on the airbox and his main jet was a 190 the thing runs great. We are at about 2900 elevation. The elevation can make a big difference in what jetting to run.
