i got a freind who has a 03 400ex and i thinking about getting a 04 this spring. My freinds 03 gots a rev box, FMF T-4 pipe, K and N filter, and stage 2 jetted and i was wondering when i get my 04 what could i get to keep up with him for about $450???? thanks

The 2004 400ex has a larger carb, 38mm compared to the 2003 with a 35.5mm carb, I think. So with the larger carb you may not need much money to keep up, or be faster. For about 450 you could buy a KandN power kit (includes filter and jets, I'm not sure of the prices), and possibly a cam. I think these mods could make you beat your friends ex, but I'm not sure.

Are you sure that fmf make a t4, I think it's pro circuit that makes the t4.

i rode a guys ex at a race the otherday it had a hmf pipe,web cam, jet kit, air filter, and high compression piston with stock bore. it was really impressive on power.

 

for about 600 you might be able to go to a 416 and that would really get him you could leave the stock pipe and he would always be wondering why you are able to take his, but that would be sand bagging and that wouldn't be nice, might be fun though[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

HMF pipe, K&N, Jet kit, and you'll still have some money left over. for those 3 things it's about $330-$350 depending on shipping cost

 

yeah get a higher compression piston and cam. you can get a stock bore, 86mm or 87mm piston. for around $120. you can get either a stage 1 or 2 hotcam for around $125. all gaskets would be around $40 depending on the brand. then you can get the cylinder bored to fit the piston anywhere between $40 and $100 depending on where you have it done and what they charge. this would be enough to beat him even with the stock pipe.
