Default 1st or 2nd

Lately i've been trying to improve my starts for racing..whats the better gear to begin in?

well 1st off how far is the race?

If you can clutch and take off in 2nd, it will be faster, because you save a shift.

if u use 2nd gear in the longer races you are better off. but on the shorter races use 1st gear because sometimes that quick jump off the line is crutial

it all depends on how hard you can launch it. There's many variables like distance, terrain type, power off the line, etc. For what you're doing it sounds like 2nd gear, I almost basically launch in 2nd.
