Default anyone seen or use FCR 40mm or lectron carb??

i am looking for some advice on these carbs on a 400ex. i know the lectrons require cleaning and maintenance and the fcr 40's need a different intake boot and throttle positions sensor block off etc but i am looking for some advice. i have a fcr 39 and i am willing to try other carbs. any info would be great.

I don't really think the upgrade to the 40 would really be worth it. A 41fcr would be a different story, but 40 wouldn't be worth the cost.

the 40mm actually flow better than the 39 or 41's. also, you can get one of those 40's for about $350 new from service honda. i realize you still need block off plates and jetting but the jetting is needed for every carb. i read the lectrons are the best flowing. the 38mm lectron is suppose to flow better than any of the fcr's and the fcr 40 is second best out of these mentioned on a flow bench. also, the 39 and 41 don't have a choke and are tough to start in cold weather.

does anyone know the differences between the crf 450 40mm fcr's in 02, 03 and 04?? they all have a different part # and all are different prices.

I have no idea. I thought the 41mm fcr would give you the best performance. But if you think the lectron will flow the best, then go that route.

What??? The 40 is the newest of the three, and like cals400ex saod...you can buy it for $350 from Service Honda.

cals400ex- I have the FCR 40 on my Z and wouldn't trade it for ANY other carb! I know a guy who switched from his 38mm Lectron to the FCR 40mm and gained 2.5HP top end on the dyno...not to mention the gains from stock! This is a Z400, but I'd imagine the same would apply to the 400EX.

Bottom line-Get the FCR...cheap, and great performance!

ok thanks guys. i have a few more questions for you. where can i get those block off plates for the throttle position sensor and i believe there is another sensor on there that needs it? what intake boot needs to be used or off what bike?? i am not really sure what jets to be used. one shop told me a different needle would be needed? what are the differences in years (02, 03, and 04). i believe 03 is the cheapest. i was suprised becasue the price does vary by $30 or $40 between the years. or where can i find out about that?? is there a cheaper place than service honda?? any other info would be great. thanks cal

I was mistaken, sorry I had heard the exact opposite(about flow) from someone who is normally a very reliable source.
