Default Fender protection

Anyone have any preference on what fender covers work best? Slip on cloth covers, camo tape, etc...?
Seems to me that the cloth would rub contantly causing scratch marks, and the tape would leave residue...Thoughts? Comments? My bike is getting scratched up fast, I don't mind but would like to add some longevity to fender life...

I have read about some people using Mop & Glow. It leaves an acrylic on the fender. I don't remember if it was a tip to protect or to restore the shine, though.
