Damn Choke Cable
#1
So I rip every thing apart on the quad to get to the choke and get the damn thing pulled out and it seems something in the carb is broke. I don't know exactly what to call it but where the end of the cable meets the carb. It seems like it just snapped. Anyone else have a problem like this? And how cheap is this part?

I think what you might be looking for is a choke plunger. It's available as a kit that comes with the plunger, spring, plastic cap, cable holder, rubber boot and circlip. I'm not sure how much but I would guess around 30 - 35 bucks.

35-40 in this area.
The plunger is ONLY available in the kit form that dzzy explained.
I see you have an '02 Rancher. Might as well go and buy a couple of them.....along with an extra choke cable. You can ount on replacing one of those, if not both, every other riding season. The cable, fortunately, is an american made part that only costs $10 for the whole thing.

I bought a new spare cable off ebay. Seems mine will stick, almost break the **** playing with it, then all of a sudden it'll pull freely...all weekend. This from a quad that sits inside in the south all the time. This past weekend I though it had some sort of twist lock on it.
One thing is when cold it won't start without the choke, this bike is very cold natured.

I never had a problem starting it in the cold. Even with a broken choke cable. I understand that their is a carb heater on some or all of the models. I suggest turning the key on for a minute before you try to start it if you are really having trouble. I never had to do this so I'm not sure if they really work.

And btw, we get pretty cold temps up here in Mich, so I think its an issue with your particular machine. My friends with ranchers have never had cold starting problems either. My prairie is a little cold blooded, but I think thats a jetting issue.
