300EX Bad news for me!
Well I got the rear axle all apart this weekend to put the bearings that I thought were bad in. They were definatly bad one of them actualy broke and destroyed the carrier and damaged my akle but I am getting the axle repaired. I found another carrier used and picked it up last night. So by this weekend it should be back up and running! This was just a setback but man was I pissed! Is this a common thing to have happen when the bearings go bad or is there a way to tell before they get this bad?

Trevor,
I had the same thing happen to my son's 400ex. The bearing went bad and it got so hot it caused the axle/bearing carrier to brake. When that broke it also damaged the axle. Had to buy a new carrier (we were on vacation at the Oregon dunes at the time). We were abale to keep riding the rest of vacation but now I have to replace the axle. Found one on ebay for $85.00. Bearing carrier was $300.00 new! Ouch!
I didn't know the bearing was bad until the carrier broke. Now I know what to watch for. Excess chain slap. You can hear it and see it.
