I am looking to buy a honda 250r and was wondering what all questions should I ask the seller about the 250r? What all needs to be done for maintenance and how often? What is the cost for gas? And what are the bad things about the 87's.

ask him how often he changed the tranny oil, top ends, what bore is it on, what gas and 2 stroke oil did he use and at what ratio, where he rode, what jetting, how often he cleaned the filter or changed, ever had the reeds out and what did they look like, etc. check oil drain plug to see of any damage like stripping and check swing arm and frame for cracks.
