high compression piston
#1
if I get a higher compression piston like 11.1 will I have to change the type of gas i use. I use the cheap gas because of the way gas prices are. I have a 300ex with rev box, jet kit, kn filter.

You should already be using premium (the expensive stuff). What's 60 more cents a tank full for a better running quad. I you go to an 11.1 piston you may need to bump your octane up to about 98. So you would have to mix in some race gas. After you put in your new piston see how it runs on pump premium and then try a mix of pump premium and 105 octane race gas. See what it runs better on and use that. DON'T use regular EVER.

just thought id ask this question here, a new high comp piston is only like 80 bucks, so how come people talk about getting pipes and not as much getting a new piston. does it provide good gains or no? also, is it hard to install, and do u need anything else

If you run too low an octane fuel in a motor with bumped compression the motor will tend to "detonate".
hondarider300, exhaust systems, after market CDI's, K&N air filters all have one thing in common. EASE OF INSTALLATION. "bolt ons"
Porting, stroking, high comp pistons, cams, milling etc all involve "opening up" the motor in one way or another.

You won't see the benifits of a high compresion piston unless you have a more flowing exaust. That is the same for porting or any motor mod. Pipe and headers should be the first other than a good air filter.

the piston will do little until you cam it. then it will open up. installing a piston is more complex than just adding an exhaust. also, with an exhaust you get the tone your looking for and better looks.

so should I get a cam and piston or an exhaust first. but i have to have a quiet pipe because of where i live so if i get a quiet insert it will probly hurt the performance. its about $200 for a cam and piston and $300 dollars for exhaust. does anybody know how much it cost for installation of cam and piston. I might be able to have my uncles old piston that he took out to get a bigbore kit put in.

i would get a service manual and do the cam and piston yourself. remember, you will need a head and base gasket. the only thing you would need the shop to do is bore the sleeve and install/gap the rings on the piston. i honestly would do the cam and piston first although most would disagree. put it this way, you will get more power out of a cam and piston with the stock exhaust than you would get with just an aftermarket exhaust. i don't know how quiet you need to stay, but most good flowing exhaust systems aren't all that quiet.
