I bought my son a used 98 recon. Shortly after that we bought a Clymers manual. We were going to replace the rear axle
bearings, due to noise. We are confused about the orientation of the oil seal, on the left side. The manul has pictures showing it installed both ways. (rubber side out or in?)

 

If you're talking about the seal with the metal ring, the ring goes on the outside. You might want to check the brake shoes. In mine oil got to the brake shoes when the bearings went out and the brakes had to be replaced even with plenty of pad left.
