250R or 400ex

id go with a 400ex. does everything well and reliability of a 4 stroke. add a pipe, jets, and filter if ya get bored. my roommate has a 1986 250r, he works on it alot. one of my other friends has a 1998 400ex, he rides it alot.

if you DO decide to go with a new 450, most people say that the 450R is a better trail bike...The YFZ is no trail bike...You'd probably prefer the Honda because it's better suited for bigger/taller people...You'd feel cramped on a YFZ

yes i am getting my permet soon and no i would never be able to afford one of the new 450s that is just a dream for now.mom and dad wont contribute anything to the new wheeler fund which really sucks but o well. i am looking on spending 2500 to 3000. i dont mind working on a 250r if i need to im always into to learning new things about engines and getting better at that kind of stuff.

Well i have 4 or 5 2-strokes, and the rest 4. Im usually working on the 4-strokes more. If you know what your doing with a 2-stroke and dont cut corners they will last for a while. I have gone 3 years on the same top end on some of my 2-strokes and thats with running it hard. Now, a 250R last longer than any other 2-stroke quad out there.

lol you work on the 4 strokes more??
thats sad...ive never had a major problem with any of my bikes, and ive been riding off an on for 6 years.
that is...no major problems besides what i have done myself..(wrecks)

Yeah wrecks mostly but things like bent valves, broke timing chains, clutches and when a Polaris comes in the shop to be worked on my god! look out. Almost everything on them Polaris quads are junk. Anyways I was being sarcastic, and saying that you wont have to work on 2-strokes that much if you know what your doing and how to tune an engine.

Yeah, 2 strokes can run a long time if you're good to them, and they can last FOREVER if you're ****...my uncle has a 250R that he bought in 88...He totally did it out for dragging..It stands as the oldest quad to date that can waste me on my YFZ lol
