Build up the EX or buy a Z?

anyone claiming that they can feel the power difference between the ex and the z stock to stock is just talking from hearsay. We have owned both the power difference isn't noticeable. the reverse comes in handy I will admit that, is it necassary not in the least.

I own a z and have a fair amount of seat time on a 400ex as well and like both quads. They are pretty similar in feel and to say you would be going wrong choosing one or the other would be a lie. The z has a few more comfortable features like reverse and liquid cooling and now the 05 comes with new features including piggybacks, 37mm carb, different bumper, grabbar and so on. I'm happy with my z and wouldn't trade. Take a z out for a ride if you get a chance and decide on that.
As far as saying the 400ex can be modded easier, I agree with bulldogZ, wtf. There are tons of good aftermarket performance parts for the z and it will mod out as good or better than a 400ex. just my .02
later sparx

how do the z and a ds have the same motor? one is a 400 and one is a 650...the ds has a far better motor then a Z. There are problems with the Z...Doug Gust broke his swingarm 2nd day out. JCEE I already said I don't own honda besides a rancher and I only use it to keep up my mx track. I would much rather have a polaris. I don't own either quad and I would never be interested in either one. I am just sayin the ex is better then a Z. Don't get me wrong because I think they both suck.

I said SIMULAR , not Same.
The Z engine is dual-over head cam, four valve head, So is the DS.
The Z engine has a nikisil coating, SO does the DS. (better for dissapating heat, over a steel sleave)
The Z engine is liduid cooled, SO is the DS.
Those were my points. I am fully aware of the fact that one is 400cc's and the other is 650cc.
Bigger.

Well I own a stock 400EX and love it. I have not ridden a Z but I heard they are great quads, besides thier frame problem which has been fixed now. The 400EX is relaible cause you can tell from time. I am sure the Z is too it just hasn't been around long enough. The 400EX aftermarket parts are a lot cheaper and a lot easier to come across. The Z also has reverse which is nice, but it really isn't that hard to turn a 400EX around. If I can, you can too. It is up to you and which one you feel more comfortable on. So try the Z and see what you think. Good Luck in making a tough decision!
