Build up the EX or buy a Z?
#41
Last summer I went to Pismo and rode both a stock 400ex (with stock tires too) and also a piped/jetted/airfilter/high octane Z-400. Though the Z-400 seemed to have more top end, I enjoyed riding the ex a lot more, it was more comfortable to sit on, the power was a lot better for me.. easier to play with. It also wheelied pretty darn good with stock tires.

simply put the Z400 has a more powerful engine and the 400ex lacks engine power but both can be souped up to be very fast. the z400 suspension is better while the 400ex is THE BEST wheelie and trick quad you can get.

The 400ex and the Z have the same shocks, Im not sure about the new Z tho. GET THE 400EX AND STICK WITH IT! It's an awesome quad and I will never get rid of mine, it has served me well, won me plenty of drags and have NEVER LET ME DOWN. The Z is inferior in quality and it just wont last as long, plus parts are more expensive and less abundant for the Z. People part out 400ex's all the time so parts are extremely cheap and you can get them all day on ebay. The 400ex is an evxtremely cost efficient machine to modift, for example: I have less than $4,500.00 in mine, including what i paid for it and I have just about every aftermarket part on it that you could possibly want but yet, it's still more reliable than any machine I have ever owned and it's still competitive with the new quads.
