i'm going to put a 87 tecate 295 big bore powervalve motor in my 87 250x frame to race flattrack, and i'm wondering how easy it is to do... i'm hoping all i will need to do is fabricate new motor mounts, but will i have to do anything to the frame itself??... please help asap!! thanx to all who help me out!

Why fast......it ain't happinin tommaroo!
That combo should work, just get the geometry down - pipe will be a little fabricating also. Plus, not many dirt track 300ex's out there and they are the same frame as 250X - they are a little short/stocky for racing.

sorry about that, but it is happening pretty soon, seeing as though the motor is on its way!! also, i don't think its a little stocky for racing, seeing as though mine has a durablue + 4 inch axle. plus, this summer its getting 400ex a-arms, and 400ex shocks, so i'll relocate the mount, and it'll be lowered to the floor for flat track. and, i am only 16, so i'm expirementing with race set ups... if you have any advice, feel free to chip in! also, even though i'm only 16, i do know a lot about atv's, seeing as though i do all my own work on mine, and friends. so, i know a little bit about them!!

If you want to lower the quad, dont use the 400ex shocks. Use the 300ex shocks with the 400ex a-arms. Will save you a bunch of trouble. If you wanted to use the 400ex shocks, but still lower it, you would have to move the upper shock tower up about 4-5 inches. Since the 300ex shocks are 3 inches shorter than the 400ex, then you are already lowered.

Still, the 400ex shocks wont bolt straight on. The upper shock mounts still need to be moved up about 2 inches. Just use the 300ex shocks. I do, and I ride in the sand dunes and jump, and they don't bottom out. If you wanted a good set of trail shocks, find some Banshee works shocks, and replace the upper bushings. They are 14 inches long and restore the ride height. The 400ex shocks are 16" and are too long.
