What is the future of the 250R??

Just wondering what the future of the 250R will be? Will you be able to get parts in 10 years from Honda or from the Aftermarket? Will their value decrease or will they become a collectors item?

I think if you look at the ATC's you can see the future of all the 2 strokes including the Banshee's. They'll hang around for probably 10 years or so then fade away. A few of them will be collectors items (if you happen to have a 86 with under 5 miles on it for example) but most of them will end up where most ATC's are now. The scrap heap. Not trying to offend anyone, they were and are great machines but they've been one upped and nobody wants a 20 year old quad that used to be the best out there. Especially as more and more races become 4 stroke only.
It'll be the bargain screamer for alot of years then fade away to black...

its hard to believe that it will be hard to find parts for a 250r 10 yrs from now. there is a million aftermarket companies that make parts for them. where are those parts going to go? and now the 500 power valve cilinder thats still in testing supposed to put out 100hp should stir up some crap.

I don't think there will be too much of a shortage of parts in 10 years. 2 stroke motors are desired for many styles other than just riding, such as mini sprints, and atv drags, etc. I'll probably be more concerned about finding parts for my 86 Lt250, than finding parts for a 250r

I dont think you'll see parts availabilty become an issue for 250R's or Banshee's for quite a while. I doubt you'll even see a big decline start for another 5 or 10 years but the prices are already falling and alot of companies are already changing their focus from 2 stroke to 4.

I think they will die out, only older guys will have them, the die hard 2 strokers, and the kids in 10-15 years will be on their 4 strokes. I also think there will be no need for them, because 4 stroke tech is improving, every year.
p.s. I did not mean to offend anyone, I know how easily you 2 strokers cry over everything!
lol j.k., I too am a 2 stroker

Have they been "one upped"? I have yet to see someone state that a 450 is a better machine than a 250R. I understand that it is as good, and is not 20 years old, but I haven't heard anyone state anything really concrete that is better about a 450.

GLIMP, you say that the 250R will end up with the same fate as the ATC's but you seem to forget that they are from basically the same era. 250R riders everywhere have chosen to keep them alive by rebuilding them over and over. And I wouldn't say that the 250R USED to be the best quad. Many including myself would argue that it still is. Personally, I love my 20 year old quad and I would not trade it for a brand new 450R with every mod possible..........but thats just me.
