Honda's next new quad?
#12
Some of your dreams may come true. Honda is buliding a big bore open class quad with the liquid cooled XR650 motor in it. I have heard this from a few credible sources (TV shows, magazines) so I am assuming it is probably true. It won't be out until 2005 or 2006 though. Honda never was one to rush a release!

I've heard that rumour resurface too. Time will only tell with honda whether it is true. I do look forward to it, as I was always a honda man all my life. It was just unfortunate back in 02 that honda didnt have anything to compete, so I've been converted to a yammi guy. It might be an excuse to sell the raptor and upgrade...

All the big companies have been putting more time in R&D for dirtbikes and such.
Honda STILL hasn't released any information on the 2005 400ex. I'm thinking they're upgrading it to compete with the z400. As for big bore sport bikes, don't look for them soon. The problems with the new yamaha 450 and the honda 450r are JUST starting to surface, so be looking for improvments on those bikes before they even THINK about creating an entire new one.

No, I'm pretty sure the 2 stroke bikes are done for too. Why do you think the push has been so hard for the crf450, yz450f and 426, and the new rmz450? They started developing and improving these bikes so the ama riders would have something to compete on in the superx and motox series. While its a lesser extent, and much too late, the manufacturers are providing 4 stroke alternatives that handle better and perform almost as well if not better than their 2 stroke counterparts.

Honda should be smart and release a 6 cylinder 3000cc power valved two stroke, that comes stock with wiseco ultra lite pistons with boost ports,
19:1 compression, fully ported heads, four 48x52 lectron powerjet carbs with open filters and 4 out of frame chrome drag pipes, titanium chassis, +40 swingarm, a-arms, handlebars, nerfs, tie rods, steering stems, axle , rims , connecting rods, plastic gas tank and runs on alky
a-arms will be +8 (laeger)
suspension will be 20 inches of travel(pep)
The bike was weigh 150lbs filled, run 300ft in less than 2 seconds, have a top speed of 270 mph and have about 1800rwhp stock
It will run the 1/4 mile in about 5 seconds.
Oh and a foam airfilter...just so people have something to upgrade over stock.

personally i think if anyone brings a new 2-stroke it will be bombardier, they have been doing well with the Rotax SDI motors in the Ski-doo sleds, so they do have the technology to create it, but i wouldn't get my hopes up for it, i expect they are working on a outlander 700 and a ds450 instead

I wont hold my breath for a new quad from Honda. We heard rumors of the 450r a couple of years in advance.
Like Maddog56, I was a Honda guy(Ride Red), but they didnt have anything in 01 that could compete with the big boy bikes. I love my Ds, and I will keep it for along while, but if Honda finally decides to build a quad that can compare to the Ds I will buy one to go right along side my Ds.
