OK people i am removing my axle carrier and bearings and i ran into a problem. I cant get the 2 lock nuts off the right side of the axle. I know the wide one is reverse thread but i used 2 cans of wd40, one can of liquid wrench and a whole can of propane in a torch. All of this while using a 24 inch cresent wrench. does anyone have any other hints on how to take this off? please let me know...thanks

About 4 months ago I had the same prob with my 250r.We ended up using a grinder and cuting the nut into.We got a duralbue posi loc nut which is way better than stock. It isn't that much.I am afraid U will have to do something of the same sort.We had a huge pipe wrench and a 6 ft long peice of tubing and couldn't get it lose.

Two big pipe wrenches and lengths of pipe, to give you more torque, should do it. Both the lock nut and the axle nut are left hand threads. I have removed several and have not had to cut one off yet. BUT, you may have to. I also agree that you should buy an aftermarket locking nut for your axle(several advertised in Dirt Wheels). Luck!

If you have not gotten the nuts losen up yet. Like the other person said use a long piece of pipe (about 3 or 4 ft) on your pipe wrench. You need to only loosen up the small nut first, then work on the big nut after the small nut has been turned a few turns. The first time that I took one apart. I used a big hammer and a chisel to break the nut free. Remember that the treads are reverse threads. Good luck.

OK, so you got the locknut(small) off. Great, but the large nut is left hand thread, also. You need to turn it the same direction that loosened the locknut. This will expose a snapring that fits in a groove in the axle. Remove the snapring and the sleeve with both nuts will slide off the axle. GOOD LUCK!

If you are sitting next to the right rear wheel(or where it would be if it were bolted on), looking towards the brake disc, then the locknut (small)came loose from the larger axle nut by turning the top of the nut to the left(toward the rear of the 4 wheeler). However, when the locknut loosens from the bigger nut, it moves toward the brake disc. That makes it left hand threads. To loosen the larger nut, so that it moves away from the snapring(the edge of the larger nut actually covers up the snap ring when the nut is tight against it. The snap ring is on the wheel side of the larger nut. If you turn the larger nut the same direction as you did the lock nut (top of nut moves toward the rear of the 4 wheeler)it too will move towards the brake disc and uncover the snap ring so that you can remove it. Good luck!!
