I think you can keep up but you will work harder doing it especially in tight or rocky terrains. My wife and I crawled through an area I call the rock garden and stopped on up the trail for a break afterward. We heard what I thought were dirt motorcycles working their way through the rock garden through the woods. I've done it on a motorcycle too and it will absolutely wear you out clutching and trying to keep your balance. Well these guys finally came up and they were all 4 on sport quads. They got off all sweating and said they will never go back through there again. So in general you can keep up and may work harder except for some more difficult situations then other times you can blow them away. It'll probably level out to your favor if your a decent rider and not a lazy rider... like me.

if he had a recon and doing fine a 400 will be a breeze...i would recommend 400 over a warrior....more power lighter and they are virtuously bulletproof...

I would think that hard terrain would almost be easier on a sport quad with the nicer plush suspention, but most anything will go anywhere. Definitly the 400ex warriors are getting to be a little outdated and besides it always feels good having a honda underneath you!!!

No wing No prayer!!!
