From my experience the Z/KFX/DVX quads are only 1-2 quad lengths faster stock to stock with an EX.
Were they running a very short distance or something? After the 400ex hits 4th it falls on it's face and starts loosing ground in a hurry.

I'd put my EX against a stock Z anyday.

I own a stock Z and a 440ex, and the Z still keeps up with my ex, doesn't lose by much.

my stock 400 used to keep about 1-2 lengths on a piped z400 across a feild...of course, my freind on the z weighed about 100 lbs more. my new stock 450r pulled 4-5 lengths on the z, and that was on break in at about 1/2-3/4 throttle---so do the math. now...with the hrc, the holeshots, and the 13t sprocket, i can walk away from a worked/piped banshee, untill he hits 6th gear at which point he pulls away. now he got a dirtbike instead..and i cant keep up at all, its a kx500 haha.

How do you figure a piped 400ex can not beat a stock z400. I do it all the time and can even run close with piped z400's. Everyone says how superior the "z" is to the "ex" but the difference is sooo close as to be negated by the rider or wieght difference. Must say a lot for the "ex" when old tech. is sooo close to cutting edge.

I just got through doing a 300ft. drag against a 450R and a YFZ 450 with my 400EX. I beat the 450R 2 out of 3 times and beat the YFZ off the line all 3 times. The YFZ beat me by about 2-3 bike lengths. I beat the 450R about 1 bike length and the 450R beat me by half a bike length. This was on wet / dry sand. Me and the bike out weigh the other riders and theif bikes.

I run 16/38 gearing, and maybe if I went with the 15/38 the YFZ might not beat me as much.
