slip on mufflers

Is there a big difference in a slip on muffler or one with a head pipe or with full exhaust? Do they perform better or are they pretty much for looks compared to the slip on?

slip on mufflers

On a performance machine, I always go with a full system. That way, the header and muffler are a "matched pair".
