300EX or Blaster
#1
I am looking to buy a new quad in a few months from now and I was wondering what one to get it's either going to be a Blaster or a 300EX. But the 300 EX is a 4-Stroke and the Blaster is a 2-Stroke. How often do you guys have to work on your blasters, pistons, rings, sleeves etc. 300EX also has reverse and electric start.

Go with the 300EX!! The Blaster has a couple weak areas, specifically the brakes(all drum and even still uses cables to the front brakes), the rear axle bearings do not hold up well & voltage regulators are a big replacement item. It also has oil injection & if the pump dies(a lot of Blaster owners disconnect it & go with premix), it will ruin the engine before you know it. Honda also handles better. There are aftermarket fixes for the Blaster, but it takes $$$.

The Blaster that used to ride with us is gone. It just couldn't keep up, and the brakes really sucked. The EX has probably the most bullet-proof motor ever made. If you want to just ride and not always work on the thing, of course, go for the Honda.

The only plus side to the blaster would be the 2 stroke 200.Other than that the 300ex is the machine to get electric start, reverse, great handling, honda relyabilty and the biggest plus of them all,BRAKES!!!!By the time you sink 500 600 bucks into getting the brakes to semi work good you could of had the 300ex already.Take it from me my first quad was a blaster and i spent 400 bucks on the trenga rear hydrolic brake kit and they still sucked beyond beleif.I guess after all of these years Yamaha still does not take safty that seriosly. Ride on

I've had botha blaster and a 300ex. The blaster has more mods on the market, and more room for imporvement. but the 300ex is kick a$$ better. I found the blaster to have no bottom end, extreeemely less reliable, stiff suspension too. But then again the 300ex is heavy, has too soft suspension, and is heavy, i said that twice for a reason. but hey, i find all fourwheelers to be death machines, dont plan on living long if you buy anything with an engine and seat belt. MY 300ex has a full roll cage, airbag, side airbag, parachute for big air, seatbelt, turn signals, 10 mph bumber, and police siren.

Well it all depends if you want ring-ding snort or the long-term reliability of a four stroke. I have a '92 blaster fresh off its first rebuild. (and it was still making good power when we tore it down.) Someone sayed the 300ex motor is probably the most reliable motor put in a quad, and I would have to agree. But the blaster motor, however outdated is pretty reliable too. The last three years I've had it all I've done is watch other people work on their quads. (including a 300ex) Its true the brakes are pathetic but I converted to hydraulics so that nightmare is over. In the long-term you will eventually need to rebuild it, depending on how long you have it.
