I'd look at the eton 70. He's too big for a micro-mini's like the kawi/suzuki 50 and can't legally ride an 80 or 90 yet in most areas. If you are not in a restricted area, I'd get an 80-90cc. They are way underpowered in stock form, imo.

I REALLY like the Honda 90! This machine is tough, durable, and trouble free. It is a machine that is capable of real, full-on cross-country rides, unlike all the rest of the kids bikes out there. My son (age 10), goes EVERYWHERE I go (even on the 4X4!). We often do 50 mile rides. When the rocks get to big, we just pick the bike up and carry it over. It is on the big side for a kids bike, so it isn't for the really small ones, but it isn't a bike they will grow out of real fast either.
It does have an autoclutch shifter, so the kid will have to learn that. It's easy, just leave them in 2nd gear for the first while, then when they want to go faster, show them how they can if they will just shift the thing. And, the pull start is a pain, until the kids are strong enought to do it themselves.
It's way more machine than the LT-80, we traded in on it. The other kids bikes are OK for "play" riding, but if you want to take the kids with you, this is the only choice.

I'll put a 2-stroke against a 4-stroke anyday. And unlike the Honda, mods are cheap and easy. You should've talked to Jack (LT80).
Can't argue the realiability part though.

I used to own a honda 90, now it is my little brother. Very well enginered machine, very tough, and dependable. Not to mention pretty quick for a 90. I pretty sure it has a throtle restrictor so you can limit how fast they go(good for a little kid).
