I haven't been able to follow the forum lately or I'd have answered it too. I don't know what the original question was, but if it's pertaining to broken starter gears on an 80's TRX350, quickie seems to have covered most of it, except the real root of the problem. The updated gears help, but the real issue was a worn or weak starter clutch. Evidenced by a loud snapping noise when you shut the machine off, or sometimes noticed when the starter is used. If that's the case, your 350 will break the new gears nearly as easily as the old. I've seen it happen more than once. If you have more questions, repost them.

Charlie,

Thanks for the (mature & intelligent) advice. I have removed the gear cover & gears but there is still no movement to remove the starter. Do I need to remove the very small gear from the starter itself? Is that even possible? Wouls a photo help?

No, just the two gears that come out easily, and of course the two mounting bolts that hold the starter to the case. The starter doesn't just fall out though, you have to give it a little GENTLE help with a pry bar, or use a small piece of wood against the outside of the starter case and a hammer to hit the wood. It's a tight fit to wiggle it out between the left engine cover and the frame but it can be done everytime I've had one out (dozens of times).
