Recon bogging right off of idle! Need help fast!
#1
My freind just got a 1999 recon and when riding it a while ago he sunk it underwater. He took it out and it started up fine and continued riding. Now when he tries to ride it it will idle fine without the choke, but when the throttle is pushed in a little bit it will bog and die. It will do fine with the choke on but without all it will do is idle. Has anyone had this problem before and can help? I have some ideas on what it may be but he still needs some help, and fast. Thanks in advance

Two possibilitiesI assume that you already cleaned the air filter & air box) 1. There is still some water in the carb float bowl. Find the screw near the bottom of the carb(a drain hose will be close to this screw also), loosen this screw a few turns until gas runs out the drain hose(if you can save this in a clean container, it is then obvious if there was water and/or dirt in the bowl). Tighten screw back up & test ride!
2. More difficult - may be dirt in the pilot jet. It feeds the power right off of idle & if it is plugged, having the choke on would help eliminate the problem. Solution, remove & clean the carb. I'm not familiar with the Recon, so I don't know how big a job this is. Maybe some Recon owners can offer some advice.

These guys seem to be right on. After you drain the float bowl and find that it still doesn't run right, you will need to take the carb off and remove float bowl to access the jets. Get some carb cleaner and spray all the jet passages out with the straw thing you get with the can of cleaner.
Sometimes the water will get lodged in the tiny jet passages and just dropping the fluids from the float bowl will not eliminate the problem. You need to force them out with pressure (carb cleaner).
