Does anyone know for sure if a 400ex rear brake master cylinder will fit on an 88 250 R. I can get a new one for $80. A used master cylinder for the 250 costs $90. Honda has discontinued the 250R master cylinder.

The parts guys at my Honda dealer says that the 400EX rear master cylinder can be modified to work on a 250R. I don't know what modifications are required. Are you sure you need another master cylinder, as I have successfully rebuilt several 250R rear master cylinders. You might go to this web site and pose your question there. It is for 250R only & there is a lot of expertise at that site! http://pub20.ezboard.com/bhondatrx250r

I am sure I need a new one. Someone who owned the bike before me replaced it with the wrong one. I already posted there, but thanks for the info.

A 400EX is not even close to a 250R master cylinder. It would take a lot of modification to get it to work. You can still get new 250R master cylinders, you just have to know where to look. I can get you you a brand new one for $100.

I have a 300ex rear master cylinder on my 250r which required very little modification to work.

All that had to be done was build a little bracket to bolt onto the one for the R and then for the EX one to bolt onto. Not hard at all.

Friends and Neighbers, you cannot buy NEW master cylinders(rear at least). I tried last week from SERVICE HONDA---they said that they're DISCONTINUED!!!!!! Honda still offers a piston kit to rebuild it with----PART # 43520-MB2-305, which is what I did. If one of you DOES KNOW where to buy a NEW MASTER CYLINDER, please inform us neglected "R"iders.
