Default spark plug

have an newbie question, first time i pulled the plug on a quad, the end oppisite the spark, usually has a little elbow () something like that, and with unversal plugs for cars u may get a couple ends so it will fit different cars, one might be longer or shorter now here is my question, mine doesn't have a () it just has the screw part where you tighten down the elbow, but there isn't even one on the plug, my question, is it suppose to have one? cus the plug is quite tight when on, just need to know if this is normal, also the plug is completely black no white porclean showing, this makes me feel im running rich, im at around 1000' feet in Alt, in Scranton PA and i have the stock fuel settings, carb was completely overhauled, should i move the pin on the jet to go a little leaner, prolly should buy another plug and check it down the road

also if i do start playing how do i know when i start leaning out?? can the rich condition also be caused by the pilot jet or is it primairly the main jet?
