Uni vs. K&N filter and power kit
#3
I've been running a K&N with an outerwear. I service the filter after any long ride. I follow the recomended way of cleaning and oiling by K&N. I do like the filter. It is alot of maintence though. It does move alot of air, but, I've been reading alot of posts from other riders. The K&N is not the best pick for all around use in my opinion. I checked the intake path to the carb and found some dust after my last ride. The K&N is not suppose to be the best filter for dusty conditions. I have a stock motor so i do not really need the extra air from the k&n, i'm looking for reliability. I ordered a Uni from my local shop. THe foam filter is breathes more, and the filtration system is hard to beat. YOu really can't go wrong with foam. I'll just have to mark up the k&n as a 50 dollar lesson. THis forum has helped alot. atc250r is a good resource. He's alittle touchy about stuff, but he knows what he is doing and it's because of his "headsup" to everyone about k&n, that i noticed the dust in the intake tube. So, for all around trail riding i'd recommend the Uni or any aftermarket foam filter. Some guys have ran the k&n with no problems too. It's all in the way you ride and the mods you have to your machine.
