recon fuel problems
My recon did the same thing. Nearly got me killed twice on a tough section of near vertical rock crawling. I lost power and had to bail twice!
I put a bigger main jet in and opened up the air box with about 8 ,3/4 inch holes. I cut the snorkel opening to its max too. I put on a stock 250ex pipe with the baffle removed.
It has never happened again. Runs great too!

Looks like the info I gave you on the float being adjustable is wrong. I just looked at the clymer, and they say the float is non adjustable. Is the float leaking and partially filling with fuel? If you take it out of the carb, and shake it, you should be able to here nothing sloshing around inside of it.
Heres a temporary try at a fix. Find a small rubber hose, that will slip over the pilot jet( the slotted side), and extend the length about 1/8 to 1/4 ". This will let it dip further into the float bowl, and stay surrounded by gas, and if this is a fix, then you know the float or the float pin or the float valve is faulty.

Try an auto parts store. Maybe a vacumn line or a hose that goes to windshield washers on cars, would be tiny enough.
The float controls the amount of gas that fill the float bowl. As it fills, the float raises up and closes the needle on to the seat and stops more gas from coming in.
Heres a good site with info on carbs.
