I have a 1999 450ES and my fan wont come on/work. So before I ordered a fan, suspecting a blown fuse I opened the fuse box under the seat. All fuse's were Ok

(Yes the fan works when directly applying 12 v)

Looking at the fuse box under the seat standing on the foot break side of the bike and facing the fuel shutoff side I have


10 S Spare (Left side of bike or fuel shut off side.)
20 A
20 A
30 A
15 A
SPare - Empty (Foot Break Side)

can some one please verify these are correct amperages. again clymer shows different.

I think the owners manual will show what they are, I looked in the service manual, and it just says the values, but doesnt show a picture.
Main fuse is 30
light is 15
ignition is 10
fan is 15
accesory is 10

 

since your fan works straight wired, the motor is good..if the fuses are good you probably have one of two problems..either the fan sensor switch is bad, it grounds the fan when the engine reachs proper temperature to run, or one of the plug connections isnt making contact. the connectors on these wiring harnesses on the four wheelers and motorcycles are ususally where you will find the problem. trying rocking the plug ins back and forth and bending the wires where they go into the plug. i bet you will find your problem there..

from what i see so far from what you told me and what is in there is that the fuses are doubled in size. not good.

I wish some one with a 1999 could actuall take a visual on there machine

My fan quit working on my 450 so I just direct wired it and put a switch on the dash. Now I turn the fan on whenever the engine is running. I have a 1999 model and will look for you.
