400ex compression reliese on cam Help
#1
My brother called me today and said he put a stock cam in his 400ex and fired it up and it ran fine then when he went to adjust the valves he went past top dead center mark and had to turn the motor backwards. Now it will not run ? it will fire but will not start .He told me in the manual it said not to do this or it will ingage the compression reliece but the manual does not tell you what to do if you are dumb enough to do it. If anybody knows what to do please let me know.

Just start over again. Turn engine counter clockwise until you are at TDC on compression stroke. You do not have to be exactly at the "T" mark. Close will do. Just do not turn clockwise. Then adjust right front exhaust valve which should now be too loose.

if you were running an aftermarket cam, make sure you added the spring and plunger back into the head if it was removed for the aftermarket cam. also, don't turn the motor over backwards. just go and make a complete revolution. remember, you need to be on the compression stroke too.
