i have a 86 350 honda fuurtrax and when i chnged the oil i put the filter in backwards...has anyone ever done this and how long would it take to damage the valves with no oil up there. Im a dumbass and not worthy to own a quad.

And get this, when i bought the quad the oil pump was shot and i had to replace the head, rockers and cam. Very pricy!! Now i think i have did it again!! I am pissed. I wonder if i can adjust the valves to quiet them if they are not that badly damaged.

What brand of filter was it? Most of them are marked "This Side Out" on the plastic end of the filter.

A few people have done this over the years. If the valves are ticking, I would say you have scored the cam. Adjusting the valves might help for a while, but I bet you have lots of other damage.

I believe the brand of filter was emgo?? It was from royal dis. All it said was " top" Whatever that means. does "top" point in or out?? Well now i know its not in. I guess it doesn't take long to do damage. All over a 3 dollar filter. Man i'm pissed.

Sorry to hear about your mistake . I would take it in and tell the service department what you did and have them check it out. You may get away with a simple valve adjustment...or you may be into it for a little more. At least you will know what needs to be worked on for sure. That way you will have the piece of mind knowing that all potential problems have been dealt with.
Good luck.
