The Difference between a 250R and 250X
#2
The 250X is a fourstroke motor and a 250R is a 2-stroke. They are very different, I have had both. The 250R is a screaming machine and the X is really an entry level quad. I believe the geometry of the two bikes are also totally different. I would suggest the R if you have enough money to swing it.
If you are just starting out and an adult, I would suggest something larger than a 250X if you want to go 4-stroke. It may be fast to you in the beginning, but you will quickly feel you need something more.
Just my opinion from a fellow hoosier.

The X is a 5 speed with reverse. The R is a 6 speed. The R is longer and wider and has much better suspension. Both are great bikes depending on the application. In the late 80's/early 90's the 250X was a good racer in the 4 stroke class, then the 300ex was introduced.

Thanks for your input fellas and clearing it up for me. I am an adult, I'm 5'7", weigh 230 and a body builder. If the 250R isn't too small I might get one if not I'll get a 400ex or a Raptor. Again thanks for your info.

Keep in mind a 250R is basically a "race only" bike. Sure they are good at other things but a 400EX or Raptor would be more versatile. They are high maintenance and expensive to modify. You have to mechanically inclined to maintain one.

well the 250x is like a mojave if you know what that is and the 250r is the quad that you see tons of at the races it is not very expensive to get mods (pretty much the same as any other quad) but it is alot cheeper to get the engine to more power ful than a frou stroke (250x).
