Woo Wo Wo i just did mine two days ago, A hammer should not be needed.
Please elaberate, are you having a hard time getting the nut to slide off the axle past the clip or trying to get the axle to slide to the left and exit the carrier?
here is the proper order.
/Remove right hub
/crack nut
/thread both nuts towards carrier
/remove spring clip from axle
/slide locking nut and sleave off axle to right
/ take off brake caliper
/slide brake disc and shaft assembly to right off axle
/slide off adjustment guide from right side of axle
/unbolt rear sproket
/ loosen chain adjustment and roll chain adjustment all the way forward so that you can take the sproket off the chain then slide off the axle to the left.
NOW.
You are ready to slide the axle to the left to exit the carrier from the left. It may be snug,(It should pop)then slide out gingerly.
Replace all six o-rings clean and regrease all parts
Note- look at and see how all four holes from the skid plate go all the way through the swing arm and enter the sealed and greased area. these bolts must be in place to keep water from entering into the most inter regions and contanamating the carrier and bearings!!!!

Like I said in my original post, I loosened the axle nut, took off the snap ring or what ever, and then slid the nut off to the right, but it never reached the end of the axle, it instead only moved like 1/2 in and stopped and wont move any further. It makes a cling sound like its hitting something but I took the ring out so its not that. What is it then? Thanks

Here is what I had to do to mine:
I removed the clip as you describe.
Then, take a flat file and carefully file the microsopic "burr" that forms from the pressure of the snap ring against the groove. Keep gently filing as you rotate the axle, a little at a time until the nut slips off.
Don't pound it off. Use brains and finesse, not brute force...
